Workbench Setup

Corvallis store setup

Setup at our store showing some of the basic tools, torch, ventilation and workbench setup.

Vent hood is ducted to a fan at the window.

General view of the whole setup.

The small kiln with digital controller modification.

Basic propane bottle and low pressure regulator. Not ideal but OK for a small flame.

Oxygen concentrators in another room can be run individually or together for stronger flame.

This is our small shop at home

The 14' x 16' shop is just big enough to turn around in, and is the focal point of our creative activities. The big shop is in the background. We have gone through several changes to our torch setup over the years. Below are some current and old photos.

GTT Lynx torch

Arrow Springs A1810 kiln, with a Paragon TNF II digital controller.

The ventilation system goes to a Dayton fan in the attic, and is on a variable speed control. Note the vent hood, lights, and fire proof work surface.

There is good natural light from east, south and west windows, but plenty of lighting is still required to ease eye strain.

*The fire extinguisher is right next to the door. I shake it up once in a while but knock on wood it has never been used!
*The propane tank is OUTSIDE where it belongs!
** We run with several Oxygen concentrators. The SeQual 10 lpm unit can run the Lynx torch alone very well.

Some of the glass stock in a closed cabinet which keeps the glass cleaner.  The PVC pipe works great for organizing colors.

Torches are the primary "tool" of our glass work so here are some examples of the least expensive options.

A fuel only torch is the entry level:

"Lampwork Torch", around $15 from the Devardiglass web site: LINK

  Hot Head torch, around $40

Fuel and Oxygen torches:

  Minor Bench Burner, around $190
  CC Mini Burner, around $240
Bethlehem Alpha Burner, around $150 introductory price
  GTT Cricket, around $170
